Corvette club of South Australia Inc.

The run was to be a joint Corvette, Vincent and Honda CBX motorcycle Club event but the forecast cool day with showers and windy conditions meant the motorcycle contingent had a rethink with some, including me, opting for 4 wheels and others deferring to a better day for a ride.  Unfortunate but as one remarked, “we’re motorcyclists, not masochists.”  12 Corvettes and half a dozen daily drivers met at the Victoria Hotel on Main South Road for a 10:30 run of approx 130 Km to the Middleton Tavern for lunch.  AJ gave the briefing & handed out goodie bags of sweets to keep us nourished on the journey.

My granddaughter was my copilot for the day and fairly quickly resorted our 2 bags of sweets into the ones she liked and by default the others were mine.  Why should I be surprised!  I led the initial part of the run via Clarendon, Yankalilla and McLaren Vale with the plan to hand over the lead to AJ at the top of Willunga Hill on the old road for the second part of the run which he had planned.  All appeared to go well with most of the Corvette group staying together.  There were a couple of minor glitches that necessitated short stops for 2 of the Corvettes and consequently no AJ in his Crewman or tail end Charlie Graham and Debbie Johns when we stopped at the top of Willunga Hill.

After a little delay and a few phone calls we were back on track with AJ leading us to Middleton via Pages Flat Rd, Hindmarsh Tiers Rd, Victor Harbor Rd and the Goolwa Rd.  We arrived about 12:30 as planned with AJ unfortunately needing to head for home rather than staying on for the lunch.  The Middleton Tavern allocated us a separate section of the main dining area for a sociable but socially distanced lunch after which people made their own way home. There were about 6 other motorbike club friends that had gone direct to the tavern, again in the comfort of their cars. It was a good run despite the weather and the food at the Tavern was well received.  Thanks to AJ for his part in organising the day and to all who attended despite the inclement weather.
