Victor Long Weekend - October 2019
OCTOBER LONG WEEKEND TOUR
The Bi-Annual Long weekend at Victor Harbor kicked off on Friday 4th. A small group of early starters met at the Mcdonalds Main South Road for some lunch before heading south. Once at the Apollon motel we met up with the country cousins from Clare and Whyalla. The C4 brigade turned up as the sun was setting and everyone was tucking into pre dinner drinks and nibbles under the pergola.
Friday night dinner was in the Apollon dining room and a nice pre ordered meal was on the agenda with more drinks from the supposedly better stocked bar, that still didn’t have Southern Comfort. It turned into a 2 course meal after Kirsty posed the question to management that dessert would be nice.
Saturday morning started with the obligatory drivers briefing, missed by AJ who was busy following Sundays schedule and was waiting diligently at Goolwa, a day too early. We started with the traditional club U -turn outside the motel, just to get it out the way early. 14 cars headed out of Victor and we only lost one car (the bright red one) before getting out of town, a club record I believe ?
It was off to Cape Jervis dodging farm machinery and roadworks. Upon arrival it was like rush hour in King William street so we went up to the lookout for a lookout, and some quick photos. Then it was back on the coastal road for a cruise up to Normanville, where we stopped at the Jetty Kiosk for a sit down lunch with views over the gulf. After a feed, drinks and more pics it was back to Victor via Glacier Rock. Upon return it was a leisurely stroll across to Granite Island for the guilty ones who wanted to burn off lunch, and more drinks and nibbles for those that weren’t so guilty.
Saturday night was dinner at Nino’s Italian restaurant, we had the upstairs balcony booked for 26 and a very tasty meal was had by all.
After losing an hours sleep due to daylight savings it was a slightly earlier drivers briefing with AJ running late again. We had a big roll up of day trippers and it was a long Corvette caravan that weaved its way to Goolwa, with Eagle 1 eventually bringing up the rear. Upon arrival at Goolwa we took up our reserved carpark behind the Corio Hotel and strolled across to the Goolwa markets where most people managed to find at least one bargain. Then back to the Corio for lunch which turned into a bit of a squeeze as we had about a dozen more people than we were expecting. There was a spill over into the front bar, where that group got feed first in a quieter environment so it didn’t work out so bad.
In the afternoon we headed off to Urimbirra Wildlife Park while the rest of the group headed back for more drinks and nibbles. The park was an interesting visit, and we got to touch up the drop bears in their natural environment. We then went back to the motel and joined in the joviality as the rain started to come down and solve some of the worlds problems after a few drinks. Saturday night we had our own room at the Victor Hotel with an alternate drop 2 course and it was a pleasant evening, until we got cease loitered by the restaurant staff who wanted to go home.
Monday morning was check out and everyone headed over to the Causeway Café for some bacon eggs and coffee to prepare us for the trip home. Those 3 days went pretty fast !
