After a week of hoping for no scorching hot weather, Sunday 13th started cool and sunny with an expected temperature of around 34 degrees. Great
I arrived at the Pickled Duck Café, Modbury to see several club members tucking into what looked like a pretty good breakfast. Time for coffee.
Departure time was to be 10.00am, no waiting for late comers. Surprise, surprise BB turns up ½ hour early. Did he wet the bed, set the alarm wrong? No he still needed to pick up the good lady, so signed the paperwork and said he'd be back .Right on 10.00am, 10 Corvettes and 1 family sedan, armed with directions and questions headed up North East Rd.( but no BB). With light traffic and cool weather it made for a pleasant scenic drive to Chain of Ponds, Gumeracha and Birdwood before taking the Mannum turn off, all the way looking for answers to my questions.
Q. What is ½ way up the road on Checker Hill Rd? Not TDU writing from last year, no, not a shed (sheds are in the paddock not on the road?) Answer- Burnouts. That one stumped everyone.
Q.What is on the fence post when you take the Mannum turn off? ( A) Lion
Q.What is his name? ( A )Kevin
Any name would have been the correct answer.
A quick stop for photos at the lookout out above Palmer bought the cars tally back by one when Michael Gibbons Corvette refused to start. Plenty of power going through but that's all, After waiting and trying again with no luck it's a phone call to the RAA, the rest of the group(still no BB) continued on while the caring Pres, Alan Litchfield and myself hung around for a while. Michael was happy to stay and wait for the RAA so we headed off to Tanunda via Cambrai, Sedan and Angaston for a round of mini golf.
Q I am standing upright on the top but laying down underneath, What am I?( A) Dry Stone wall.
Tony Beer Smith had overheating problems in Angaston, but after a rest and adding some water to the radiator met up with us in Tanunda. Who won the golf? Can't remember, but a Wombat did get a hole in 1.
The final questions meant a get out of car stop at the Seppelsfield Mauseleum, then into Seppeltfield for lunch.
BB and Carol finally showed up having completed the full run about ½ hour behind. After the "where have you two been" questions it was discovered the Cruise/Questionare organiser ( Me) should check His phone more often because if he did there was a TXT from BB saying that something had come up and they would meet us for lunch. WHOOPS!!
Lunch was a casual BYO under the trees in the Seppeltsfield Gardens which ended a good day. Thanks to those who turned up.
And the winners of the observation run were -
Wombat and Norene. Well observed
Note - While waiting for the RAA, Michael Gibbons got out his picnic chair and table, ate his lunch then decided to try start his car again. Bingo, it started so cancelled the RAA and headed home. We're glad you got home ok and not on the back of a truck.
