Rob's Rod Run - 7th May 2018
Peter McBride, Stu and Ruth
04-Jun-18

Sunday arrived with the sun out and the forecast for a great day, perfect for a club run. I arrived at McDonalds and there was only one car there, checked the watch and I was early so it was ok. As departure time approached the car park filled up and my 20 booking for lunch seemed a little light, not to worry will sort it out at the first stop. We had the run briefing and distributed maps and it was time to go and there were some that didnt read the newsletter, leave at 9.30am, they had to catch up. Once we turned onto the Kapunda road the traffic was light and this made for a pleasant cruise, through to Kapunda and toward Marrabel then right to Eudunda and our first stop at Michael and Glenys Riemanns place where we saw their hot rods and a reduced size Kenworth truck that he has built that left us in awe as the amount of work and detail of the build was exceptional and left some thinking that they could work on detailing the Vette a bit better. From there we ventured to Nuriootpa where we visited Tony Kuchel and saw more hot rods and his own motorhome which is an International Transtar with a Detroit V8 (GM), looks like a single drive pantec until you open the doors and inside is everything that opens and shuts, kitchen, TV, shower, toilet and on it goes (they are currently on the road to Qld stopping at various tourist attractions and great camping spots, I mean when you are self sufficient you can stop anywhere) We also toured his workshop where they build/restore trucks of all sorts back to better than new with all sorts of customisation along the way. Then we moved on to the Greenock Creek Tavern who I had phoned while at Eudunda to advise/ask if the could accommodate 42 for lunch the answer was a quick no, their dining room holds 85 and there was another group of 58 already booked, I said look we are the Corvette Club and are prepared to sit in the gutter for those that wont fit in the dining room, after a brief pause that seemed like 3 hours all were accommodated. Pleasant day, different run, great company.
