The organising committee was on the ground early in preparation for the day ahead. A steady stream of Corvettes soon began to arrive and rumble their way onto the grassy expanse of Wigley Reserve down at the Bay. An unseasonally cool morning greeted everyone (except for Karen McConnell who was obviously a bit hot and bothered when she let out a shriek of delight on seeing Larry "get his big thing out"…..not sure what that says about Rob!). Anyway I digress, as cars continued to filter onto the grounds many members decided to get their morning coffee fix before the band started to setup. This year the band was 'Rave-On' who did an excellent job of keeping the crowd entertained with a mix of different tunes. This year's change of venue seemed to be a great success with an array of places to eat and explore nearby for those who didn't want to spend the entire day hanging around the cars.
The day seemed to pass very quickly as the number of Corvettes present reached the low 90's…..unfortunately we didn't quite reach the goal of getting 100 Corvettes there but I'm sure that record will be broken very shortly. Mid-afternoon soon arrived and it was time to start the raffle draw where a total of 10 raffle prizes were handed out to the lucky winners. Then it was on to the business end of the event…...who would win the trophies. This year's Public Choice award was picked up by Alan Scroop with his white 1973 C3, the Entrant's Choice award was won by AJ Martin with his blue 1954 C1 Corvette (the other trophy winners are listed on the next page).
This year's annual show 'n' shine was a great success and all credit must go to the organising committee in particular Peter & Lynda McBride for taking the lead role in organising this event as well as our Events Coordinator Tony Beer Smith for his efforts in promoting the event. A lot of hard work happens behind the scenes to make an event like this as successful as it was and I'm sure all of those who attended really appreciate all of the hard work that was done. Thanks must also go to Judy Beyer who has prepared a YouTube clip of the day, please go and check it out online!.
I can only see this event getting bigger and better so if you couldn't make it this year put it in your calendar now for next year as it really is one of those "must not miss" events. Thank you to everyone who attended especially the COWs (Corvettes of Whyalla) members and other country members who made the long distance trek to get to Glenelg.
