CFS Appreciation Cruise Day
With rainclouds looming on the horizon, 39 classic cars rumbled into formation in the designated car park at Tea Tree Plaza. After getting our course notes for the day it was time to have a wander around and check out the variety of cars that had ventured out. There were plenty of Mustangs, a few Cadillacs, a Chevelle, a Ford LTD and Thunderbird, an Imperial, a familiar looking Porsche 928 as well as a good turnout of Corvettes to round out the numbers…….and of course Bob's Big Buick.
The time to leave soon came around and our guests were asked to stand next to the cars they would like to travel out to Birdwood in. Our beloved President must have become a bit confused and thought he would try to get out to Birdwood by hailing a public bus down instead (he was actually trying to direct participant's cars into the car park) but he must have decided that travelling by Corvette would be the better way to go. Once everyone was ready we started to head off in convoy towards our destination, fortunately the weather played ball and it was a pleasant jaunt out to the National Motor Museum at Birdwood.
After wandering around the museum for a while it was time for some morning tea...…and a quick chiropractic check-up if you wanted! There was then a bit more free time to continue exploring the museum before we met back at the cars for the return trip to Tea Tree Plaza. As before our CFS volunteers were asked to stand next to the cars they wanted to travel back in.….as could be expected the mixture of LHD and RHD cars on offer caused a couple of passengers to be a bit unsure which side off the car to go to! The scenic trip back started in nice weather but unfortunately the skies opened up to deliver a decent Adelaide Hills downpour. For a short period we had to contend with fog, heavy rain, water sheet flowing across the road and windscreens starting to fog up inside..….definitely not the conditions to test out your high speed cornering skills. Fortunately the worst of the weather didn't last long and we were soon driving in much more relaxing conditions.
It seemed like no time at all and we were back at the starting point ready to say our goodbyes. A big thank you must go to everyone who made this day possible. To those drivers from the following club's we thank you for bringing your pride and joy out in less than perfect conditions to give our guests a great day out:
· Mustang Owners Club Australia (South Australia)
· Chevrolet Performance Association of South Australia
· Wanderer's Rock'n'Roll Car Club
· Cadillac La-Salle Car Club of South Australia
· National Cadillac Club of Australia (South Australia)
· Corvette Club of South Australia
We would also like to thank the National Motor Museum for their kind support of this event and the Lutheran Church ladies for contributing to the yummy morning tea/lunch.
A special mention must of course go to Bob and Carol for coming up with the idea for this event and bringing it to fruition…..well done guy's! Many thanks must also to Dave, Catherine and those others from the Corvette Club who assisted with getting this show on the road.
Last but certainly not least we would like to thank all those members of the CFS who came along and joined in for the day, we really appreciate everything that you do in the community and hope that you enjoyed your special day out! |
