Collingrove Hill Climb Sunday 20th October 2013
19-Nov-13 |
Eight Corvettes headed off from Prices Bakery at Hillcrest at 9.45am to meet up with Big Dog and Jim and Catherine at Springton around 10.30. Jim and Catherine were in their 1965 Mustang which decided it loved Springton so much it did not want to leave and would not start. Jim received advise on what was wrong from every one there, which he accepted in his normal calm manner, but after all the actions taken it still would not start. He gave the RAA a call while others headed to Collingrove as we had committed we would be there at 11 o’clock.
In all twelve Corvettes were on display in the area made available for us by Daryl, from the Sporting Car Club, keeping us well informed on our involvement in the day’s proceedings which to our delight included three runs up the hill climb track over their lunch time break.
Once all the paper work was done and handed in we were ready to experience the track challenge with some Corvette drivers taking their time over the non timed three runs and others getting the boot in that bit more over each run. It was GREAT FUN and well worth the experience.
Sean Hayter volunteered to be the announcer on the microphone for our time on the track advising all in attendance which Corvettes were participating and a rundown on the history of that model as well as our hosting of the Corvette Nationals next year. Well done Sean.
Our members took advantage of the ever moving shade to sit and watch the experienced competitors in the afternoon to get ideas for their efforts over Easter next year.
Catherine and Jim unfortunately had to abandon their efforts to attend Collingrove however the good news was the Mustang started just before the RAA attended with a faulty ignition coil the culprit which failed when hot. They got home OK with the conclusion the Mustang did not want to play with the Corvettes that day.
Our thanks goes to the Sporting Car Club, particularly John Eagle and Daryl Warman, for looking after us and extending their support to assist us on our track day over Easter 2014 as required.
Thank you to those members who attended and pass on to other club members of your experience to drive the track and participate in this event in Easter 2014.
