Catherine and Jim were our cruise captains for this event, they had a difficult time keeping KB under control. Warrawong Run 9 th September 2012. Well, we couldn’t have asked for better weather, or a better turnout! 16 cars met us at Hungry Jacks on Anzac Highway. Thankfully, I don’ think the show patrons held us up too long. We headed out down Anzac Hwy, North Terrace, Payneham Road up to Lower North East and then to Gorge Road. Wound our way up through Cudlee Creek and then for a stop at Gumeracha to pick up 4 more cars – and a few people too! Those who felt it was required indulged on hot donuts, while the rest of us drooled….! Departed Gumeracha for our destination at Mylor. Went the scenic route through Birdwood, Woodside, Verdun and then onto Bridgewater and Aldgate and up the back way to Warrawong Sanctuary. Meals were bought out with a minimum of fuss and everyone was fed very quickly to then go to the Animal show at 2.00. The animal show consisted of a Huntsman Spider – eekk……., Spiny Leaf Insect, a green Leaf Insect, a Blue tongue Lizard – we had to restrain Graham Johns and a Carpet Python – we had to restrain Larry from running out the door screaming like a girl…..!! After the show was over, we headed back in for afternoon tea – which someone - namely the cruise captain nearly forgot about. Enjoyed warm scones with jam and cream and then wandered around the sanctuary. Saw lots of ducks, a couple of swans, a few kangaroos and wallabies and a couple of koalas sleeping in the trees – none of them was our own KB aka Laurie. Thank you very much to Warrawong for such a smooth event and thank you for everyone for coming. A total of 16 corvette’s, a vintage Ford Falcon, a Chevy Blazer, a Holden Commodore and 36 people – I call that a success. On our way out, some of the volunteers were looking at our cars and they said that a night walk through the sanctuary is something not to be missed, so we may do this when the weather gets warmer! Thanks again everyone. C & J |
