We stopped at Blanchetown Hotel for lunch & this was where Sean discovered his problem wasn’t a faulty lead or plug. In fact he had 2 buggered push rods. After lunch & numerous phone calls he managed to find 2 push rods in Blanchetown. These were installed in the pub’s car park between showers of rain. Then it was “On the Road Again”. Struth’s problems started at Mt Pleasant when the C4 trans started slipping. So they returned home to collect Ol’ Faithful (the C3); & arrived later in the day. That night we dined at the Renmark Golf Club Bistro where Sean won the “Hard Luck” prize. The Golf Club was our home for the next 3 nights. Saturday morning Rob & Karen, Breck & Helen, John & Cathy arrived to join us. We departed from the Golf Club at 10.30 & went to Mallee Estate Winery for coffee & wine tasting. From there we drove to the historic Overland Corner for lunch. Here we had a number plate raffle where Gus won a model C1. After lunch, the tragics returned to Renmark to watch the football. The rest of us did a cruise via Barmera, drove along the River’s edge at Berri, crossed the Lyrup ferry & cruised back to Renmark. At 6.30 pm we were picked up by a coach taking us to the Mallee Fowl Restaurant (Australiana Theme) for dinner; where we had a great time & some people had a bloody good time. 10pm we were bussed back to Renmark where some continued the party mode. Sunday 10 am we started our main cruise. We were joined by Cos & Helen (a local couple with a C4). We drove across the historic Paringa Bridge, to Loxton for morning tea. A reporter from the local paper turned up & took some photos of our cars. We continued via Moorook to Waikerie, where we crossed the ferry & headed for Barmera via the Overland Corner road. Lunch was at the Barmera Hotel. After lunch we returned via Monash. Pre dinner drinks included a golf challenge to see who could drive the ball the longest distance. Many people gathered to participate. When Mick Hallett stepped up & belted the ball with such force it exploded to the delight of Kevin & Rob. (Obviously there were some faulty balls as Lynda Jarrett’s split in 2 & Paula’s has streamers pouring out. Another 1 vaporised into water). The contest was won by Sandy Simons & Gus Smith. After the BBQ 3 awards were presented. Delsa won the “Having a Bloody Good Time” award, Mick Hallett won the “U drive me nuts “award. Mick also won the “Best Vette” award which was chosen by the staff at the Renmark Golf Club. Monday after a BBQ breakfast we headed for home via Blanchetown where some of us continued via Mannum for lunch at the Pretoria Hotel where Neil & Chris met us as a finale to the long weekend. PS a big thank you to our chefs, Bob, AJ, Graham, Sean |
